5/15/2020 The Building Blocks of YogaSoleWhen we first closed the studio to physical in-person classes, I was very focused on how to continue to offer yoga, self care, and most importantly community to the YogaSole family and following. I am very proud of the collected effort it took to get our studio up and running with livestream classes quickly. After that goal was achieved, we took a hard look at how to not only survive but potentially even thrive through this unprecedented challenge. It became clear that despite the challenges we know will come, we must stay true to the YogaSole ethos; Community, Breath, Positivity, Inclusion. Now as much as ever we are committed to those ideals, even as we find a new path forward. In addition we realize that there is one other commitment that we have come to see as equally important. Transparency about who we are, what we believe, and how we run as a business is as important as our founding principles. Community- YogaSole is unquestionably a community studio and as such, we care about each other. We are not just here for yoga and wellness. We are here to help members through challenges, to share resources, and to celebrate milestones and successes. This has only strengthened in the time of the Covid19 pandemic and will continue to grow in reach as we push forward. Breath- We think of this in many different aspects. Breath is the first building block to health and wellness. It is our ability to create calm even in relative chaos. We also think of breath in terms of the earth’s ability to breathe and to achieve a sense of homeostasis. We work to raise funds for the White Hawk Foundation to help preserve and protect rain forest in Costa Rica as part of our commitment to raising awareness of the Earth's need for breath. Positivity - Even through challenges, we can find ways to bring positivity into our existence. We know that in tough times, having a community of people to rely on for an ear, a shoulder, a meal, or even a smile can make a tremendous difference. We do not attempt to deny difficulty. Instead we work to create opportunities to see the silver lining, be able to express gratitude, and work toward solutions that will ultimately ease our burdens, together. Inclusion - We love and accept all people. This includes efforts to make sure that people of all descriptions feel comfortable practicing with us and being in community at YogaSole. While it has always included creating offerings that are financially accessible to a wide variety of budgets, we are especially sensitive to financial constraints during the pandemic and ensuing economic downturn. We have created a sliding scale class fee for individuals who have been financially disadvantaged, in addition to our previously existing work trade opportunities and community classes. Transparency -
Looking forward to the future of our growing community, we will be clear about what it takes to keep such a unique business going. We are committed to paying our teachers a fair salary while keeping prices reasonable. We want people to know that running YogaSole is hard work! And that seeing all of the wonderful community interactions and positive influences in people’s lives makes all that hard work worthwhile. We appreciate hearing from all of our community members about what they would like to see from the studio, and even more, we deeply appreciate hearing that you are enjoying being a part of this glorious community.
