3/7/2020 Let's Stay Healthy TogetherDear lovely yogis and community members, We know that staying healthy is on the forefront of many minds and even more so with the recent cases of Coronavirus reported in New York. From all of the information that we have gathered, the current advice is to take similar precautions as have always been advised throughout the cold and flu season. We wanted to take a moment to reassure all of our community members that we are continuing to pay close attention to the cleanliness of the studio by sanitizing all fixtures at least twice daily, washing all textiles regularly, and airing out the studio as much as possible between classes. We ask that if you feel at all unwell in any way, please take as much time at home to feel better and return to the studio when you are no longer showing any symptoms of communicable illness. We encourage everyone to wash their hands with soap and warm water when entering the studio (or any public space). While 20 second hand washing is recommended as the best approach, we will also have hand sanitizer set out in the lobby. In addition, please make sure to sneeze or cough into a tissue or the crook of your elbow to contain any potential germs and wash your hands after. During this time as we notice a feeling of general unease or uncertainty, we know very well the power of yoga to help us breathe through those feelings as well as stay present and attuned to what is truly important in our individual and collective lives. We look forward to practicing yoga with you now as much as ever. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us via email or phone.
by Sunee LaClaire We are frequently asked if children are welcome to attend regular studio classes at YogaSole or our Prospect Park Summer Series. While we think that yoga can and should be practiced at all ages, the answer to this particular question is typically rather long. The shortest response is “It depends”. After being asked the question enough times, we thought perhaps we could expand our thinking in a blog entry so that we could explore the different considerations. … On the age of your child. Children’s yoga classes have a very different set up than adult yoga and they include songs and different names for the traditional yoga poses. Also they do not contain traditional vinyassa flow sequences. We do not recommend adult classes for anyone under the age of 8, however children mature at different rates and really only you can say if your child is ready to attend adult style yoga classes. Teenagers from 15 or 16 are likely ready to start attending classes and can even be added to your class series or membership by purchasing the family flex version. … On the length of the class. Even very mature children between 8 - 15 would likely be best sticking to 60 minutes classes versus 75 minute sessions. … On if they have practiced yoga before. If they are already familiar with yoga, they might enjoy attending a regular class with you more than if it is their first exposure to yoga. For beginners we recommend attending a special class or series for first time yogis or booking a private session. … On their attention span. If your child can sit and focus on one activity for an hour or more, they might be ready to attend a class. If they have not demonstrated that ability yet, perhaps a children’s yoga class is a better starting point. … On their ability to occupy themselves. If they choose to opt out of any part of the class, will they be able to occupy themselves quietly so that you (and the other students) can still enjoy the practice? If after thinking out the multiple considerations, you decide that attending a regularly scheduled yoga class with your youngster is still a ways off, we offer multiple other ways for you to practice together.

Ahhh technology. It makes our lives easier (sometimes) while simultaneously getting us completely hooked. Having a mini computer in your hand could become a blessing or a curse and the determining factor is of course how you use it. Just like the technological advances that came before, the phonograph, the photograph, the moving image, smartphones can be used to educate, communicate, and elevate our human experience, if that is how we choose to use them. One small way to use your phone for good is to download the MindBody app and use it to book your classes.
Here are my top 8 reasons why booking classes (and services) through the app is so great.
1. See the schedule in real time. Last minute substitutions won’t ever surprise you since the schedule is not only updated in real time and if you pre-registered for a class, you can automatically be emailed if a teacher gets a sub. 2. Book your classes instantly. If you already have a package, you can book your classes with a tap of the screen. If you need to buy classes, it will take a couple of extra taps, but less than a minute. 3. See all the upcoming events at a glance. You can preview all of the upcoming events on the studio page to plan when you’d like to attend your next workshop or special class series. 4. Leave a review. Loved a specific class or teacher? Leave them a review. Positive feedback does wonders. ? 5. Quick and easy check in. When you register for classes in advance, your name already appears in the check in app when you arrive at the studio and all you have to do is click, ‘check in’ and glide into class. 6. Track your classes and your steps. Did you know that you can connect your fitness tracker to the MindBody app so you can track fitness activities that happen in class? You can also see a record of all of the classes you have been attending, which can come in very handy for rebooking that class you loved but teacher’s name has escaped you. 7. See last minute deals. Studios offer last minute deals on classes and you can see them all in the app. 8. Book other services Mindbody is not only used by fitness class providers. Beauty and wellness practitioners use the system as well which means that you can use the same app to book appointments for all types of services.
At YogaSole, pre-booking your classes is just a suggestion. As a community studio, we always hold spaces for walk-ins. Registering for classes in advance does have advantages. When we know to expect people we can help make sure they have an appropriate spot and help them get props set up before they even walk in the door. Many students have told us that they like to make reservations in advance to help them stay committed to their practice. Since the system sends an email reminding you that you signed up to attend class, it can be a good nudge to get on your mat.
We also receive questions about why people might not wish to sign up for classes in advance and many of them are about the cancelation policies. We have developed generous cancelation terms, some of the most fair we have seen in the industry. If you are unable to make it to class, you can cancel up until 30 minutes before class starts directly through the app or the website. As a smaller studio with limited space and in order to be fair to and respectful of the other students, we will deduct 1 class or the cost of the class from your account if you don’t make it and don’t cancel in advance. We also ask that you arrive early to class to settle in as we close classes 3 minutes after the scheduled start time to prevent disruption during opening meditation and warm up. Have questions? We have answers! Let us know via email info@yogasole.com or phone (718)635-1958 |
